This silkscreen day-glo poster for The Endless Summer is one of the most prized 60's surfing posters. John Van Hamersveld was commissioned by Bruce Brown to design the poster artwork for the film. Most of these popular posters were bought by surf enthusiasts and displayed in their rooms.
Not many have survived and they are highly sought after. To find one in good condition is nearly impossible. This exact poster produced by Personality Posters is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The poster has been professionally framed. It is possible it is mounted to the foamcore you see in the rear photo of the frame. I do not want to disassemble to confirm for fear of damaging the poster. It has no pinholes and minimal wear for it's age as clearly shown in photos. Please let me know if you have any further questions or would like more photos.
I also own the 50th anniversary reproduction. While the colors are beautiful the true magic belongs to 1966 originals as you can see the layers of day-glo paint on top of one another creating subtly different day-glo hues around the sun and coastline. I have included a comparison photo above. This item is in the category "Entertainment Memorabilia\Movie Memorabilia\Posters\Originals-United States\1960-69".
